Resources

Long Beach, California sits at the eastern edge of Los Angeles County bordering Orange County. Resources include local agencies and organizations and also online resources.

There are many, many online community pages and forums to go to for information, advice, and networking. Some are listed in the Online Groups & Organizations section below.

This site is meant to be a first stop along your way towards being a community cat ally, not an exhaustive one-stop shop. TNVR communities are always growing and changing. Social media can be a very effective way to connect with others in between “in real life” coalition meetings

The best options for assistance with community cats that need help are going to be:

Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS)
(562) 570-7387

• For help with sick and injured animals
• Vouchers to off-set the cost of spay/neuter (for both community and owned pets)
• Low cost vaccinations on certain days when the  CAMP Mobile Clinic comes to the Village (see calendar link below)

The Community Cats section is helpful

• Help and advice for community cats
• Traps available with a deposit
• To get help with community cats in your neighborhood, email CommunityCats@longbeach.go

We are also fortunate to have a dedicated Community Cat Officer, Lindsie Merrick, who can help you with your community cats, arrange for you to borrow traps, help connect you with appointments, etc. You can email her at Lindsie.Merrick@longbeach.gov. Please do not show up to the shelter without having made arrangements with her in advance; she is often out in the field helping kitties.

Remember, LBACS will generally not take in found cats or kittens or owner-surrendered cats at the front desk.

Local Organizations that offer No Cost or Low Cost Spay/Neuter clinics by appointment:

The Little Lion Foundation, Long Beach

For help with TNR: community@thelittlelionfoundation.org
• Offers assistance with trapping and Spay/Neuter.
• No cost for community cats within the Long Beach Animal Care Services area.
• Low cost Spay/Neuter for owned pet cats
• Traps to loan out (depending on availability)

Helen Sanders CatPAWS (CatPAWS), Seal Beach

Excellent Resource & Education section offering help on what to do if you find a cat, how to TNR, and how to obtain free DIY Kitten Kits to help save the most vulnerable kitties.

Sponsors mobile Spay/Neuter clinics and recently added a brick-and-mortar clinic in Huntington Beach clinic for free Spay/Neuter of community cats and low cost Spay/Neuter of owned cats.

CAMP (formerly SNPLA), San Pedro and other Los Angeles area locations

• Low Cost Spay/Neuter by appointment, accepts Long Beach Animal Care Services vouchers to offset surgery cost
Note: We have found that CAMP is a good option for neutering male community cats, but in our experience it is prohibitively difficult to rely on this option for female community cats. Go to Little Lions Foundation or CatPAWS if you have female community cats that are high priority to get spayed before they get pregnant.

CAMP offers Low Cost Vaccine Clinics every day!
Monday-Sunday 9:00 am – 3:45 pm
*no appointment needed*

CAMP Mobile Clinic also comes to LBACS regularly! Please check the calendar for exact days, times and prices

The following two organizations are not based here locally, but they are two of the best respected national organizations for animal welfare and their sites include a lot of helpful and reliable information.
